Literature Text

On a fateful evening in the city of Durant
I sat alone by the fireplace, you see.
All around me were faces scant
of desirable quality.

I dared not speak for it's not my nature.
Instead, I sketched in timid silence.
Then I noticed a curious creature
studying me with distant shyness.

I remained aloof like introverts do
and continued on with my work.
Then, suddenly, out of the blue
the girl approached with a quirk.

For an awkward moment we sat
I looked at her and she looked at me
Then, reluctantly she asked
“You like to draw?” with glee.

I gave her a nod for it was true.
Her eyes lit up like a child's.
“Can I draw a picture for you?”
She questioned, beguiled.

I passed my sketchbook to her hold
and watched as she adorned
the paper with lines so bold
of a trotting unicorn.

When she had finally finished
we introduced ourselves by name.
And, as the night wore on I witnessed
that we were one and the same.

Many years have come and gone
since that night of first meeting.
Many more pictures were drawn
through times now so fleeting.

Yet our friendship only strengthens
and time makes us wise.
After years of vast invention
we're still children in disguise.

So, wherever life may take us
I hold onto to this memory.
And, as we continue to coalesce
I am glad of her company.

A poem I wrote for my dearest friend WhiteWing1 for Valentines Day. It details the night we met and the friendship we've built since then.

Enjoy!
